It has been a sad year ending for the Indian cricket fans as MS Dhoni announced his retirement decision today after the game against Australia in Melbourne. Dhoni has surprised everyone with his decision of retiring from Test Cricket. Al though there are no specific reasons for the retirement of MS Dhoni officially, here is our analysis on his retirement.
Reason 1: Fatigue/All formats strain
MS Dhoni is the captain for Team India in all the formats of the game since many years. There is no doubt that there will be so much of stress on him for holding multiple responsibilities for these many years. He is the wicket-keeper batsman and the captain for the side as well.
Reason 2: Repeated defeats under his captaincy
Al though he is the captain for the side and won many matches than any other captain did for Team India, Dhoni’s record in this regard is worse outside Asian pitches, precisely on England and Australian grounds. However, Dhoni could manage series wins at West Indies and New Zealand.
Reason 3: Poor batting form
Dhoni’s batting form is something that keeps him worrying all the time. Precisely when it comes to his performance in overseas pitches. He doesn’t have a century in foreign pitches. Although he was struggling since a long to get back into form, he couldn’t.
Reason 4: Growing Virat’s stature
According to some cricket experts, the growing stature of Virat Kohli in the team could be one of the reasons for his tough decision to retire from Test Cricket. Point to notice is that the people who have close connections with BCCI have started backing Kohli for his performance and thus helping in loosing grip for MS Dhoni in the team.
Reason 5: IPL spot-fixing controversy
The spot fixing controversy of IPL seem to have dented MS Dhoni’s image too. Responding to the allegations in this regard, the Indian captain had also offered to step down as the captain for Chennai Super Kings too.
MS Dhoni looked so cool while confronting the media after the match and he did hint out any thing regarding his decision on his future about the game. 45 minutes after the press meet, an announcement form BCCI said that MS Dhoni have decided to retire from Test Cricket format and this is his last game as Captain as well as a player. As Dhoni announced retirement from the game, his deputy Virat Kohli who also led the team in the first test in Adelaide will lead the team in the final test going to be held at Sydney against Australia.
