HYDERABAD: To curb illegal activities at Himayatsagar and Osmansagar, Cyberabad police have set up two lake police stations near the water bodies on Sunday.
Home minister N Narasimha Reddy, along with his cabinet colleagues T Harish Rao, P Mahender Reddy and Telangana State Legislative Council chairman K Swamy Goud, inaugurated the lake police stations.
Each of these police stations, headed by an officer of sub-inspector rank, would have eight personnel, including an ASI and six constables. The two police stations were also provided with an Innova car each for patrolling.
Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand said that the police stations would be effective in curbing suicides, and illegal activities like encroachment of lake beds, water pollution, fishing, eve-teasing and racing. The Osmansagar (Gandipet) police station is located on the lake barrage, while the Himayatsagar PS is located close to the barrage.
The Himayatsagar lake police station would work under the supervision of Rajendranagar SHO, while the Osmansagar police station would work under the supervision of Narsingi SHO.
After the inauguration, the cabinet ministers, along with police and HMWS&SB officials, carried out cleaning of the Gandipet lake inflow channel as part of ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ programme.
Speaking to media personnel at the event, Narasimha Reddy said that by actively participating in the Swachh Hyderabad campaign, police have sent a message across the country that in addition to lathis, they could also wield brooms, and become idols for cops across the nation.
Harish Rao said that by mingling with civilians during the Swachh Hyderabad programme, Telangana police have acquired a positive image. At the event, CV Anand adopted Gandipet and Shamshabad DCP AR Srinivas adopted Himayatsagar as part of ‘Mission Kakatiya’ and Swachh Hyderabad programmes.
